Social Services

The County of Simcoe delivers social services throughout the Township of Springwater. These services range from children and community services to social housing and long-term care.

Children programs include:

  • Childcare fee subsidy
  • EarlyON Child and Family Centres
  • Support for children with special needs
  • Assistance locating quality licensed childcare
  • Wage enhancement and home childcare enhancement grants

Ontario Works provides financial and employment assistance to people in financial need. The County of Simcoe Ontario Works Department delivers programs to eligible residents of the County of Simcoe and the cities of Barrie and Orillia. The County of Simcoe administers social housing programs and social housing. Social housing includes public housing, cooperatives, and non-profit providers that receive government funding to assist with rent subsidies and operating and capital costs.

Programs include:

  • Ontario Renovates
  • Rent supplements or housing allowances
  • Rental development
  • Special needs housing
  • Homeownership program
  • Housing retention program

The County also provides per diem funding for emergency shelter beds, including access to basic needs, at specific facilities across our region.

The Simcoe County Local Immigration Partnership (SCLIP) supports:

  • Better coordination in the planning and delivery of integration services to newcomers
  • Development and application of a community-based settlement plan for newcomers
  • Access to employment and social opportunities
  • Increased economic, social, and community participation by newcomers

All four Simcoe County long-term care homes (Georgian, Simcoe, Sunset and Trillium) and two senior residential homes (Simcoe Village and Georgian Residences) are accredited. The County can also connect you with grants to support age-friendly home renovations or repairs.

Ontario 211

Ontario 211 helps people find basic needs such as food, housing and emergency financial assistance. It connects people with agencies who can help someone cope with health issues like cancer or help elderly citizens stay in their own homes. Ontario 211 has highly trained operators available to listen and help 24/7.
